Individual-specific patterns of wing and tail feather bleaching enable to identify released individual birds prior to the first plumage moult which usually takes place at the age of 2-3 years.
Immature Golden eagles are often confused with marked bearded vultures as they wear whitish plumage spots under the wings and at the base of tail feathers.

A young bearded vulture in second calendar-year plumage: markings are usually asymmetric and look rather geometric as entire feathers are bleached.

In contrast, young Golden eagles exhibit symmetric, non geometric pale spots under the wings and a white stripe at the base of the tail.
